Cut pile carpet is most commonly known for its cushioned feel for the feet. Regardless of the thickness selected, the cushioned feel is obtained through strategic cutting during the weaving of the carpet. The weaving leaves a tufted appearance that allows the loops to be the same height and stand out as individual strands.

Level loop carpet provides a smooth, level surface characterized by tight, uniform loops. The strong strands make this carpet very durable and resistant to matting and tracking. The tight loops of level loop carpet help prevent dirt from penetrating the surface and therefore make it easier to clean.

Cut and loop carpet is a combination of cut pile and level loop carpeting. The variation of the loops and cuts can allow for the creation of designs, decorations, and the use of multiple colors within the carpet. Due to the multiple heights within the carpet fibers, cut and loop carpet hides dirt well and will withstand an average amount of traffic. The elegant look and the durability of cut and loop carpet makes it an ideal candidate for formal areas.

Broadloom carpet is made on a large loom and is usually used for large areas or for wall-to-wall carpeting. Broadloom carpet is usually glued down so it won't shift or move with use. Because broadloom has less seams, dirt will have a harder time penetrating the carpet, thus leaving it looking new and clean longer.

Carpet tiles are individual square quantities placed together to form one continuous carpet floor. The tiles allow for several design patterns and creativity that large carpets do not offer. Carpet tiles are a popular option because individual tiles can be replaced as needed due to stains or wear. In the long run, carpet tile will save money because small designated areas can be replaced without the need to remove an entire floor.

Carpet backing is important to providing shape, structural stability, and protection to carpet. There are a number of different styles including jute, polyurethane, action-bac, and moisture barrier. The types of backing are characterized by the different materials used such as natural fibers and polyurethane.
